Lonely Planet: Vietnam is number 4 among the top fall travel trends of 2026

Lonely Planet has published its list of 15 destinations that are the biggest fall travel trends of 2026, and Vietnam is number 4. The ranking is based on the growth in Lonely Planet guidebook orders from 20 August to 20 September. Only Japan, Italy and Thailand rank higher, with South America in fifth place.

According to Lonely Planet, autumn is a good time to see the whole country in one trip: cities, nature and local life.

  • Hanoi — mild weather for walks in the Old Quarter and street food, from pho to egg coffee.
  • Ha Long Bay — good visibility and calm weather for cruises among the limestone karsts.
  • Sapa and Ha Giang — rice terraces in the ripening season and the mountain roads of the north.
  • The south — warmer, though rain is possible: Ho Chi Minh City street food and cycling through the villages around Hoi An.
